The Gap Inc. commonly known as Gap Inc. or Gap, is an American multinational clothing and accessories retailer. Donald Fisher and Doris F. Fisher founded it in 1969 by and headquartered in San Francisco, California, USA. The company operates five primary divisions: the namesake banner, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime and Athleta. Gap Inc. was surpassed by Spanish-based Inditex Group as the world’s largest apparel retailer, based on the total numbers of international locations, however it remains the largest specialty retailer in the United States. As of September 2008, the company has approximately 135,000 employees and operates 3,076 stores worldwide, of which 2,551 are located in the U.S.
The Gap Inc Serves Nonprofit Organizations. The Fisher family remains deeply involved in the company, collectively owning much of its stock. Donald Fisher served as Chairman of the Board until 2004, playing a role in the ouster of then-CEO Millard Drexler in 2002, and remained on the board until his death on September 27, 2009. Fisher’s wife and their son, Robert J. Fisher, also serve on Gap’s board of directors. Robert succeeded his father as chairman in 2004 and also served as CEO on an interim basis following the resignation of Paul Pressler in 2007, before being succeeded permanently by Glenn K. Murphy.

For every 25 hours that a store team of three or more employees volunteers with an eligible nonprofit that serves youth or women, the team can request a $250 grant for the community organization. Gap invests in youth and women because, based on its company’s assets, it believe that it is best positioned to make an impact in these cause areas. Don’t forget! If you volunteer with an organization that does not focus on youth or women, you may be able to provide this organization with a grant through Gap’s Money for Time program. After you’ve worked here for a year, it’ll match your donations to eligible nonprofits, dollar for dollar. It’ll even provide a grant to eligible organization’s where you volunteer too.
Below are the total community funds from Gap Inc. you have to spend when you participate in matching programs. Match your giving to a cause or organization that’s meaningful to you, then choose one matching program or divide your funding between all of them –– it’s totally up to you: $1,000 for part-time, $2,500 for full-time employees, $5,000 for Directors to Vice Presidents, $10,000 for Senior Vice Presidents and above.
The donation matching benefit is for Gap Inc. employees only and it cannot match any donations you may have raised from your friends, family, customers, or other people not employed by Gap Inc. If you and your team raise more than $25 together, you may submit the total donation to be matched on behalf of your team, as long as all the money raised came from Gap Inc. employees. The match request that you submit on behalf of your Gap Inc. team will count against your personal annual match allocation. Gap can only match true donations, and not those for which goods or services were received. For example, it cannot match fees paid for raffle prizes, tickets to fundraising events, school tuition, etc.
We have a set amount of community giving cash in our account each quarter. If funds aren’t available to match your donation or volunteer hours in a certain quarter, check back the following quarter. You have 120 days to apply for the cash match from the time you give your donation or complete your volunteer service.
Gap will match donations of US $25 or more to eligible nonprofits. For every 15 hours you volunteer with one eligible nonprofit in a calendar year, Gap will donate $150 to the partner nonprofit. To take part in this program, you have to report your 15 volunteer hours online or to download the Money for Time form.
